Tonight was the last Erlounge meeting. We discussed Erlang processes, message passing between them and fault tolerance. I have uploaded the notes (here).
With me moving to Seattle it marks the end of Erlounge and the beginning of the Lambda Lounge, Alex Miller has a description here.
We have another meeting coming up 7pm, November 12th at Contegix. Erlang processes will be on the docket. Hope to see you there.
A small but energetic group turned out for this months meeting. We had a good discussion first about erlectricity, then about disco and lastly bit about fuzed. I also showed some erlectricity code I worked on and a disco demo. Good times.
The next meeting will be 7pm, November 12th at Contegix. The topic of the meeting will be Erlang processes, how they work and what can be done with them. Please note this will likely be the last meeting for me as I will be soon there after leaving St Louis. Hopefully I will have some more details as far as the group, meetings and venues.
Don’t forget the next meeting is coming up, 7pm, October 8th at Contegix. It will be a discussion about how Erlang interfaces with other languages and vise versa. As a sneak peak I will mention that I have been playing with Erlectricity, Fuzed, Disco and even found info about interfacing with haskell. 8-| See you there.
Thanks to all those who came out. The meeting went well and Ian and I had our respective talks (slides here). The rest of the time was spent talking about technology and the direction of the group. A decision was made to make the group more than just about erlang and more about languages and tech that may be on the fringe, erlang being an example.
The next meeting will be 7pm, October 8th at Contegix. It will be more discussion based rather than presentations. The main topic will be interfacing Erlang with other languages and vice versa. Bring your experiences, something cool you found on a blog or anything related to the next meeting. Hope to see you there.
Also, I setup a googlegroup for the group. Enjoy.
I have nailed down the two presentations for the first meeting. Here’s what’s on the docket:
- Erlang Installation on *nix
- Covering installations from source, rpm and deb
- Presenter: Joe Williams
- ejabberd Overview and Implementation
- Including controlling the frontend (http-bind and javascript) and backend
- Presenter: Ian Eyberg
-
We will also discuss the plans for ErloungeSTL (focus/direction, schedules and etc). Bring your ideas and thoughts to the meeting.
The first ever meet up for Erlang developers, users and curious will be in a couple weeks at Contegix in downtown St Louis. We will have a meet and greet and a couple short sessions/presentations. Contegix has even offered to order food for everyone. Should be pretty sweet!
